Glow In The Dark Paint FAQ

Find best tips on our strontium aluminate phosphorescent acrylic glow paints—surface prep, mix ratios, and UV or sunlight charging for brightest, long-lasting neon effects Any more questions? Visit our Full FAQ Page!.

How long does glow-in-the-dark paint last?

Our Glow-in-the-dark paint—also called phosphorescent paint—glows brightest for 8–12 hours, with a faint afterglow up to 24 hours. Premium strontium aluminate pigments can extend visible glow beyond 12 hours, while older zinc sulfide formulas typically fade in 30–60 minutes. Recharge under direct sunlight or with a UV Rechargeable Flashlight.

How to charge glow-in-the-dark paint?

To fully charge expose painted surfaces to direct sunlight for 10–15 minutes or hold a UV Rechargeable Flashlight for 30–60 seconds. For large murals or uneven surfaces, move the light source across the area or change angles to ensure even charging. Repeat charging whenever the glow begins to fade.

How to make glow-in-the-dark paint?

Mix 1 part strontium aluminate powder with 3–5 parts binder (clear acrylic, epoxy, or oil medium), blend thoroughly, apply thin coats, and charge under a UV Rechargeable Flashlight for an instant glow.

How does glow-in-the-dark paint work?

This paint contains phosphors (e.g., strontium aluminate) that absorb UV or visible light and slowly release it as visible light through phosphorescence. Strontium aluminate-based paints outperform zinc sulfide by glowing more intensely and for longer periods.
