Product and Glow Paint/Pigment FAQs
How does glow in the dark paint and pigment work?
Glow paint and pigment absorb light energy (from sunlight, UV light, or strong indoor light) and release it slowly in the dark, creating a visible glowing effect. No batteries or electricity needed!
Does glow pigment stop working over time?
No. Glow pigment does not wear out. If protected and sealed, it can glow for decades.
Is the glow paint safe for indoor use and around kids or pets?
Yes! Our glow paints and pigments are non-toxic and safe for indoor projects. They are not intended for use on skin or ingestion, but they’re perfectly safe for art, DIY, and home decor.
How long does the glow effect last after charging?
Depending on the color and light source, the glow can last up to 12 hours after a full charge. For the brightest results, recharge using strong sunlight or a UV flashlight.
Can I use glow paints and pigments on any surface?
Glow paints and pigments work best on smooth, light-colored surfaces like canvas, walls, fabric, 3D models, and shoes. For dark surfaces, we recommend applying a white base coat first.
What temperature can strontium aluminate pigments withstand?
Strontium aluminate pigments are heat-resistant up to approximately 200–230°C (390–445°F). Above this range, the crystal structure that enables glowing can permanently degrade, reducing or completely destroying the glow effect.
What is the particle size of glow in the dark pigments, and why does it matter?
Our glow pigments have a fine particle size (typically 0–30 microns), allowing smooth mixing into paint, resin, and clear binders. Smaller particles spread more evenly, while higher pigment load increases glow intensity.
Does every glow color shine equally bright?
No - some colors naturally glow brighter than others. Green and aqua shades glow the strongest, while colors like pink and purple have a softer glow.
Application & Care FAQs
How do I charge the glow paint or pigment properly?
Glow paint and pigment activate when exposed to a strong light source like sunlight, a UV flashlight, or a bright indoor lamp. The glow effect can be instant with direct sunlight or UV light. For a longer-lasting glow, it's best to expose the surface for a longer period of time — around 10–30 minutes. If possible, you can also place your artwork in a sunny part of your room to keep it naturally charged throughout the day. This way, your project can glow longer and recharge easily without needing special equipment!
Can glow in the dark pigments be used with ceramics or polymer clay?
Yes, but only after all heating or firing is finished. Strontium aluminate pigments cannot handle very high temperatures. If they are fired in a kiln or baked in an oven, the glow will be damaged or completely destroyed. For ceramic or polymer clay projects, first fire or bake the piece as normal and let it cool fully. After that, apply the glow pigment on the surface using paint, resin, or a clear binder. To make it last longer, seal it with a clear protective topcoat.
Can I mix glow pigment into other mediums like resin or oil paint?
Yes! Our glow pigment can be mixed into clear mediums such as acrylics, resins, oils, and glues. Always use a transparent or light-colored binder to allow maximum light absorption.
Why is my glow weak?
The glow effect can be weak if there is not enough pigment, if the surface is dark, if charging light or uv torch batteries are weak, or if the pigment is covered by thick or opaque material.
How many layers of glow paint should I apply for best results?
For the best glow effect, apply 2–3 thin layers of glow paint. Make sure each layer dries fully before adding the next.
Is the glow paint waterproof once dry? Do I need to seal it?
Glow paint becomes water-resistant once dry, but we recommend sealing projects (especially shoes, clothing, or outdoor art) with a clear topcoat for extra durability.
