I tried a few different glow paints for a gallery piece, and GlowThatWows stood out with really nice colors and longer glow time

GlowThatWows: It Started With One Instagram Video

Hey, we’re Erik and Lukas - the two people behind GlowThatWows.

This all started in 2021, after I saw a local artist post a video of canvas art made with glow in the dark paint. The lights went off, the artwork lit up, and I remember thinking: why does this feel so much more exciting than normal art?

I had never been an art person. I respected it, I understood that other people loved it - but I was never the guy standing in front of a painting having a deep emotional moment.

At the time, I honestly thought I had found something most people had never seen before. Looking back, glow-in-the-dark itself wasn’t exactly new. I was just the one acting like I had discovered fire.

And that was enough to start a business.

Harder Than It Looked

We teamed up with the same artist whose video I had seen, and built the idea around glow-in-the-dark canvas prints made with screen printing. That's where I met Lukas - the person who actually knew how to build things. He designed and constructed the entire screen printing setup from scratch, and being an artist himself, he understood the product from the inside.

The idea was good. The business model was not.

Creating content consistently was harder than we expected, and running the screen printing operation cost a fortune. But to make the prints work, we had to take the glow material seriously.

Good Enough Wasn’t Good Enough

Lukas worked on the glow formula, and used it directly in our own production. We were not testing paint just to create something nice to sell later. We needed it for our own art business, so “good enough” was not really good enough.

If the glow looked weak, the print looked weak. If the formula was inconsistent, the whole product suffered.

The more we worked with glow materials, the more obvious the gap became.

Some suppliers had decent pigment, but only a few colours. Some had colours, but not the stronger strontium aluminate powder we wanted. Some treated glow-in-the-dark like one random product buried inside a huge catalogue. Some could not support bulk needs. Some had very little information, which made it hard to know what you were actually getting.

No single option gave us the combination we were looking for: strong glow, better colours, reliable supply, and enough understanding to explain the product honestly.

Nobody was doing all of it. So we decided to.

Four Years Later, This Became GlowThatWows

The store you're looking at now opened in 2025. But the product behind it has four years of real work in it.

And now, somehow, you can also find me in galleries standing with my hands behind my back, staring at artwork like I know exactly what I’m doing.

Funny how things work out.
