Glow In The Dark Pigment FAQ
How do I make a glow-in-the-dark paint?
Strontium aluminate pigment powder works with most clear or translucent mediums - acrylic, resin, epoxy, varnish, nail gel, candle wax and more. Mix at a 1:4 ratio (1 part pigment to 4 parts medium) and stir well. Going above a 1:3 ratio causes the pigment to clump and reduces glow performance.
How to charge glow-in-the-dark paint & pigment?
Hold a UV flashlight close to the surface for 10-30 seconds, or place your piece in direct sunlight for 1-2 minutes. The pigment starts glowing from the first second of light exposure - the longer you charge, the longer it glows. You can't overcharge it.
How long does glow-in-the-dark effect last?
Glow duration depends on the colour. The brightest pigments (green, yellow and cyan) can glow for up to 18 hours after a full charge, medium colours such as orange around 10-12 hours, and deeper tones around 8 hours. All colours recharge instantly and never wear out.For exact performance by colour, refer to the product images or description.
How does strontium aluminate pigment work?
Strontium aluminate is a special crystal that absorbs light and stores it as energy. When you turn the lights off, it slowly releases that energy as a visible glow - this is called phosphorescence. It works the same way as cheap zinc sulfide pigments, but stores far more energy, which is why it glows brighter and for much longer.
