Why use white gesso under glow-in-the-dark paint?
A white base reflects light, helping the glow appear brighter. Gesso also prepares the surface so paint can grip. It is especially useful when your background is dark or uneven in colour.
How long before I can paint over it?
Leave 24 hours after your last coat. Gesso feels dry much sooner but is still soft inside.Paint applied too early can crack or lift later.
What surfaces can I use it on?
Canvas, canvas board, wood, MDF, hardboard, paper and card all take gesso directly. Plasticand metal need sanding first, or the gesso will peel off later.
Can I just use white paint instead?
You can, but it will not do the same job. Gesso is made to grip the surface and seal it, soyour paint sits on top instead of soaking in. White acrylic paint soaks in like any otherpaint, which is what wastes your glow paint in the first place.
How many coats of white gesso do I need?
Apply thin coats until the surface is evenly white. If dark patches remain after two coats, add a third. Let each coat dry before applying another.
